An orchestral work, DANZA PETRIFICADA, commissioned by the Chicago Symphony and Maestro Riccardo Muti, which will premiere on 14, 15, 16, 17 October, 2010;.
THREE PIANO PIECES for American Pianist Jonathan Biss for his debut Carnegie Hall recital on 21 January, 2011 which was commissioned by Music Accord.
VINCENT, commissioned by Indiana University on an original libretto by J. D. McClatchy, which will premiere on 8, 9, 15 and 16 April, 2011 in Bloomington, Indiana.
The world premiere of Bernard Rands' 12 PRELUDES FOR SOLO PIANO took place at the Ruhr International Piano Festival, in Essen, Germany on May 16th, 2007. The soloist was Robert Levin. The work was commissioned by Maria and Robert Skirnick (New York) and the Ruhr Piano Festival.
Bernard Rands is currently working on a saxophone quartet, commissioned by the New York State Arts Council for the Prism Quartet. The work will premiere in New York, date TBD.
Bernard Rands has been commissioned by the New York Philharmonic to compose a large orchestral work for the 08/09 season. If premiered in 2009, the work will coincide with the composer's 75th birthday year.
Bernard Rands' CELLO CONCERTO was presented on March 10, 11, and 12, 2005, by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, featuring cellist Johannes Moser. Pierre Boulez conducts at Symphony Center in Chicago, and there will be a pre-concert conversation with Augusta Read Thomas.
Time Out New York voted the new CD featuring Bernard Rands' "Canti Trilogy" as one of the ten best classical CDs of 2004. The CD, on the Arsis label, includes CANTI DEL SOLE, CANTI LUNATICI, and CANTI DELL'ECLISSE. Performing is the Boston Modern Orchestra project, conducted by Gil Rose, and featuring soloists Douglas Ahlstedt, Lucy Shelton, and Thomas Paul.
